Selected for the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center 2024 Juried Winter Show - Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

Aloha Tower stands tall above Honolulu Harbor as a beacon of welcome for travelers arriving in Hawaii via ship – modern day cruiseliners as well as the historic steamships that once brought visitors to the islands. The iconic clocktower is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Hawaii. I captured this image as the hands of the clock neared high noon under the blazing tropical sun. I chose to paint this devoid of the vibrant colors so often associated with Hawaiian imagery, and instead focused on the striking architecture and play of light among the palms.
